Standard Operating Procedure for Islamic Burial

Islamic Society of Monterey County — guidance for families when the death of a Muslim occurs, from contacting a licensed mortuary through scheduling the burial.

Contact a Licensed Mortuary

By law, only a licensed mortuary can handle a deceased body. Please contact one of the following mortuaries for body pick-up and storage.

Note: It is recommended to obtain pricing from both mortuaries and proceed with the most cost-effective option.

Costs to Consider

There are three primary costs associated with the burial process.

Grave Plot Purchase

Total: $4,376.00
  • Grave plot: $4,126.00
  • Kufin (burial shroud): $250.00
  • Purchase from: Islamic Society of Monterey County

  • A plot number will be assigned upon purchase.

Grave Opening & Closing

Approx. $3,300.00 (+/-)
  • Includes concrete insert with top cover.
  • Payable to: Mission Mortuary Memorial Park
  • Contact: Patricia Narez

  • Patricia will handle all required paperwork.

Mortuary Services

Approx. $2,000.00–$3,300.00 (+/-)
  • Includes pick-up of the body and storage.

Scheduling the Burial

The Islamic Society of Monterey County will coordinate with Patricia Narez at Mission Mortuary Memorial Park to schedule the time and date of the burial.

Important

When purchasing a burial plot, we do not guarantee a specific plot location, nor can we guarantee that members of the same family will be buried next to one another. Plot assignments are made based on availability at the time of burial and operational considerations.
